Welcome to the future home of TorontoToday!

Welcome to the future home of TorontoToday, a local news source dedicated to telling the stories that matter most: the ones right in your neighbourhood. Set to launch in October, our daily mission will be to cover the city’s core like never before — with a focus on the people, places, events and information that make downtown Toronto such a unique and vibrant community.

That’s the key word here: community. Although there is no shortage of top-notch media outlets serving Canada’s largest city, we plan to bring a whole new level of hyperlocal journalism to Toronto’s downtown districts. Whether you live here, work here or play here — or all three — our boots-on-the-ground reporting will help you navigate your day-to-day life by connecting you even deeper to this community.

In our eyes, that’s the magic of great local journalism. It reminds us, one headline at a time, that we share things in common. That we are in this together. That we all belong — even in a community as diverse and sometimes daunting as downtown Toronto.

Operated by Village Media, a leader in local journalism, TorontoToday will cover a very specific geographic area: the water to the south, Dupont to the north, the DVP to the east and Dufferin to the west. Although our site will always feature up-to-the minute details such as traffic, weather and school closures, our primary goal is to explore and explain what’s happening in your specific corner of downtown Toronto.

Why is that condo development delayed? Who owns the new restaurant over there? Why were police on my street last night? How long will it take to fix the broken subway elevator? What can I do with my kids this weekend? Where is the closest child care centre?

Along the way, our talented team of community journalists will pursue the kinds of stories that tell you what is happening and why it matters. They will introduce you to downtown artists, entrepreneurs, volunteers and so many other fascinating people doing inspiring things. And they will shine a spotlight on problems that need fixing, always asking the tough questions on your behalf.

We can’t wait to get started — and for you to start reading and connecting with us. Like all of Village Media’s local news outlets across Ontario, TorontoToday will be completely free and accessible to all, whether you’re on your phone, tablet or computer. No subscriptions. No article limits.

As we prepare to go live, please be sure to sign up for our daily newsletter, The Stir, and fill out our pre-launch survey.

Stay tuned for more details, Toronto! We’ll have a lot more big news to report very soon.
